For years the honest knock on the Wrangler was the IIHS small overlap crash test, where it tipped onto its side. Jeep reinforced the frame rail to deflect the forces causing it. In the latest IIHS testing the 2026 stayed on all four wheels and the rating moved from Marginal to Acceptable.
Here is what that does and does not mean. It is a real fix to a real problem. It is not an award. The Wrangler is still not an IIHS Top Safety Pick, and it still rates poorly for headlights and crash avoidance systems.
